How to Monitor CAS Signalling Bits

Clarinet system supports monitoring of the abcd signalling bits:

  • Over the E1 interface in the TS 16
  • Over the T1 interface through the CAS channel

Connecting the unit

The Clarinet Book USB E1/T1 uses both A and B ports for monitoring T and R directions. See the pictures in 'How to connect E1/T1 interface to Clarinet-Book USB'

Setting the test conditions for CAS monitoring

A new profile can be created with the Wizard from the Template list by selecting:

  • Profile->New->Trunk E1 T1......See: building a test
  • Profile with a description including Trunk, Monitor, PH=E1 or  T1, DL=BOP
  • Filter with a description including DL=BOP

Profile resulting from the wizard is ready for monitoring in High Impedance mode.

Example: Modifications to monitor CAS over E1 interface

In the profile go to E1-Options:

  • Select abcd signalling on TS 16
Example: Modifications to monitor CAS over T1 interface

In the profile go to T1-Options:

  • Select abcd signalling mode
  • Check that channels supporting CAS signalling are deselected in the to 64 Kbits/s data TS

Running the profile

To launch the profile:

  • Select Profile->Run or click horse_on.gif (968 octets) (it allows selection of the profile name). See Running a test
  • The Event-Editor window is automatically opened.

To stop the profile:

  • Click horse_off.gif (975 octets)  See: Stopping a test
  • The Event-Editor window is automatically closed

Troubleshooting over PRI

  • No messages displayed on the Event-Editor windows. Check if the Alarms line have an indication  such as ' -+ FL' or '++FL' meaning that no signal is detected.
  • The protocol messages are displayed on the wrong directions: the E1 or T1 pair connected to the A and B port are the reverse side.
