How to Monitor SS7 Protocol over E1 or T1 Interface

Monitoring on the SS7 protocol is carried out according to the connection of the TS's on Channel 1 (Signalling link) and Channel 2 (Data Link) defined in the profile.

Connecting the unit

The Clarinet Book USB E1/T1 uses both A and B ports for monitoring T and R directions.

The Clarinet-Book can be connected to the E1 interface in:

• Parallel mode over E1. Clarinet inputs set as high impedance. See: wiring , connect,  pin-out
• Serial mode over E1. Clarinet inputs set as 75, 120 Ohms. See: wiring , connect,  pin-out

The Clarinet-Book can be connected to the T1 interface in:

• Parallel mode over T1. Clarinet inputs set as high impedance. See: wiring , connect,  pin-out
• Serial mode over T1 with clarinet inputs set as 100 Ohms. See: wiring , connect,  pin-out

A profile resulting from the wizard is ready for Monitoring in High Impedance.

Setting the test conditions

A new profile can be created with the Wizard from the Template list by selecting:

• Profile->New->SS7......See: building a test.
• Profile with a description including SS7, Monitor, PH=E1 or  PH=T1
• Filter with a description including  SL, DL=SS7

A profile resulting from the wizard is ready for SS7 monitoring over two channels.

Optional modifications to apply to the profile:

• E1 Options: CRC4 multi-frame if CRC4 is used on the interface.
• T1 Options: ESF/SF multiframing,.....

Example: Modifications to TS's of E1: C1= 14 and C2= 7

The default TS's are #16 (Channel 1- SL) and #1 (Channel 2- DL) .

In the profile go to  Interface-Spec... ->Signalling Link :

• TD Time Slots: select  14
• RD Time Slots: select  14

In the profile go to  Interface-Spec... ->Data Link :

• TD Time Slots: select  7
• RD Time Slots: select  7

Running the profile

To launch the profile:

• Select Profile->Run or click on . It allows to select the name of profile. See Running a test
• The windows of the Event-Editor is automatically opened.

To stop the profile

• Click over   See: Stopping a test
• The Event-Editor window is automatically closed

Troubleshooting over PRI

• No messages displayed on the Event-Editor windows: Check if the Alarms line have an indication  such as ' -+ FL' or '++FL' meaning that no signal is detected. 
• The protocol messages are displayed on the wrong directions: The E1 or T1 pair connected to the A and B port are the reverse side.
