How to Simulate H323 over Ethernet
This page describes how to simulate an H323 End-Point with the following
features:
- Connection to an Ethernet network
- Registration from a Gatekeeper by using H225-RAS
- Establishment of signalling channels by using H225
- Establishment of media channels by using H245
Connecting the unit
The Clarinet Book USB Ethernet 10/100 uses the RJ45 or AUI port and can be connected to a 10B2 BNC connector by using:
- An external transceiver (provided as an accessory) AUI-10B2
- The Clarinet-Book power supply which provides the power to the transceiver
Setting the test conditions for Ethernet profile
A new profile can be created with the Wizard from the Template list by selecting:
- LAN application.
- Profile with a description including LAN, Simu,
PH=10BT DL=H323 RAS
- Filter with a description including DL= MAC802.3/Auto/H323
Example using the wizard:
- ProfileèNewèLANèlan_simu_h323_endpoint_RAS.acpèFilter?èLan_auto_h323.acf
The IP-type simulation profile H323_simu_mac_endpoint_RAS.aip
invoked by lan_simu_h323_endpoint_RAS.acp
is automatically copied into the same directory.
Both profiles (*.acp and *.aip) resulting from the wizard are ready for
H323 simulation over an Ethernet 10 Mbits interface.
Modifications can apply to the profile lan_simu_h323_endpoint_RAS.acp
- About the Physical interface:
- IEEE 802.3 Init: RJ45 10 Mbits or 100 Mbits.
see also Monitor
Tx messages in Interface specification
- About IP call simulator name
- About acquisition limited to a set of MAC addresses
- Save the profile under a new name:
- ProfileèSave
asèfilename.acp.
Most of the modifications apply to the profile H323_simu_mac_endpoint_RAS.aip
resulting from the copy.
Setting the addresses for basic H323 simulation profile
Profile H323_simu_mac_endpoint_RAS.aip
some of the default addresses need to be modified:
- Open the profile:
- ProfileèOpen
IP...èH323_simu_mac_endpoint_RAS.aip.
-
Modifications to setup the MAC and IP addresses of the H323 Endpoint:
- Changing the MAC address: Initialize Initialize
Emulator èMAC
Setting the value of Own
Ethernet address (hex)
- Changing the IP address: Initialize Initialize
Emulator èIP
Setting the value of Own
IP address
This IP value will automaticallyupdate
the source IP addresses in the H225 messages
-
Modifications to setup the RAS parameters of the H323 Endpoint:
- Changing the Gatekeeper address Initialize
Emulator èH323
èRAS
settings
Setting the value of IP
address port of the Gatekeeper Lookup table
-
Modifications to setup the RAS messages used by the H323 Endpoint
:
- Changing the address Initialize
Emulator èH323
èRAS
settings èEncode
RAS messages
Setting the ASN1 content of Gatekeeper
Request (GRQ) (Endpoint Alias)
Setting the ASN1 content of Registration
Request (RRQ) (Terminal Alias)
-
Modifications to setup the RAS and H225 messages used by the H323
Endpoint :
- Save the profile under a new name:
- ProfileèSave
asèfilename.aip.
- Select this new name in the LAN profile and save it.
- ProfileèSave
asèfilename.acp.
Changing the TCP and UDP ports for H323 simulation profile
Profile H323_simu_mac_endpoint_RAS.aip
resulting from the copy may require modification to the default ports:
Running the profile
The profile is ready to generate one outgoing call and to terminate any
incoming call for 30 seconds.
To launch the profile:
- Select Profile->Run or click
(it allows selection of the profile name). See Running
a test
- The Event-Editor window is automatically opened.
To stop the profile:
Troubleshooting over Ethernet
- No messages displayed on the Event-Editor windows. Check if the Clarinet
Book LED shows activity over the LAN interface.
