How to Monitor V5 Protocol over E1 Interface
Monitoring the V5 protocol (V5.1 or V5.2) over an E1 interface makes
it possible to display the links carried over two time slots.
Connecting the unit
The Clarinet Book USB E1/T1 uses both, ports A and
B, for T and R directions.

Setting the test conditions to monitor one single E1 Link
A new profile can be created with the Wizard from the template list by
selecting:-
- Profile=>New=>V5
(see: building).
- Profile with a description including V5, Monitor, PH=E1,
SL=DL=V5
.
- Filter with a description including SL=DL V5.
The profile created by the wizard is ready for V5 monitoring in the TS
16 and TS 15.
Events of time slot 15 are displayed with TS/RS attribute, TS 16 with
TD/RD attribute.
Optional modifications to apply to the profile:-
- E1 options: CRC4 multi-frame is normally used over V5
(selected by default).
Deselect it if not used (Interface Specs=>Link=>Options).
Saving the profile under a new name:-
- Profile=>Save as=>filename.acp.
Running the profile
To launch the profile:-
- Select Profile=>Run or click
on the
button. You will be able to select the name of profile (see Running
a test).
- The Event Editor window is opened automatically.
To stop the profile:-
- Click on the
button (see: stopping
a test).
- The Event Editor window is closed automatically.
Setting the test conditions to monitor two E1 Links
After editing the profile created from the template, duplicate the interface:-
- Place the cursor over the Clarinet 1 tab page, over
an area that triggers the copy indication next to the
mouse pointer.
- Right click to display the context menu, and select Copy.
- Select the tab, No Clarinet and select Clarinet
2 in the Interface list.
- Place the cursor over the Clarinet 2 tab page, over
an area that triggers the copy indication next to the
mouse pointer.
- Right click to display the context menu, and select Paste.
- Save the profile under a new name by selecting save as.
The profile is ready for monitoring TS 16 and TS 15 simultaneously on
both interfaces.
Troubleshooting over E1
- No messages are displayed in the Event Editor window: Check whether
there are any alarm indications such as ' -+ FL' or '++FL'
meaning that no signal is detected.
- The protocol messages are displayed in the wrong directions: The E1
pair connected to the A and B port are the wrong way round.
